"oops i did it again..." our beloved Didi must have been humming this Britney Spears song the whole day on Friday December 1,06 when our so called grass root party(literally or not thats a different issue altogether) called a bandh. the very day before they had ransacked the Bidhan Sabha Bhavan, gutted a few buses, hurled stones at a few policemen and cursed a lot of people especially the TATA s and our cm.
now im not going to delve into the political machinery at woprk behind the whole process but from a common man's point of view i have a few notes of my own to share.
lets dichotomize the futility of the whole operation.
1. material loss
2. public harassment
3. the image of the state put forth
lets go about them one by one..
they caused an unprecedented material damage in the bidhan sabha bhavan on Thursday..destroyed all the furnitures, even attacked the speaker with a broken handle of a broken chair....our Constitution was laying on the ground trodden by the netas...so far goes our democracy that we even have the right to trod on the book that defines democracy for us...
they destroyed all the tables, chairs and other furnitures....man they were really expensive..made of real mahogony wood...really expensive ones...but if they wanted new sits they could have asked for it...destroying the current furnitures was totally uncalled for.if thats not all they destroyed 5 buses....
if we take the price of each bus to be about 4 lacs then there goes 20 lacs in smoky air...that the buses were made by tatas may be the fueling factor but still.... u know
coming to the public harassment...it doesn't bother anyone anymore because we have grown mightily used to it...so much so that we no longer take that into consideration...or do we? there was a huge fistfight within the house itself and many mla s were hurt at the end, a few of them profusely bleeding. the harassment of the commons are taken for granted..those who ventured out for work were meted with utmost dismay as few buses plied that day...leaving considerably fewer options at hand either to reach office or home.....but most of us stayed indoors...enjoying a mid-week holiday.....
trading was closed at th Calcutta stock exchange...companies incurring a large amount of financial loss due to the day's work off and the daily-payees were the worst hit loosing their day's wage....but as i said nobody cares.....
